Andrew is an executive and CIO at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Amongst his most recent achievements, Andrew led the Trust’s digital transformation programme for the hospital move from Papworth Everard to the new state-of-the-art hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. His team were also recognised as a ‘UK first’ to develop interoperability between the Electronic Patient Record systems Lorenzo and Epic after becoming a Lorenzo Digital Exemplar. Andrew is a frequent thought leader with articles published in the New Statesman and keynote at the Health Innovation Conference (HISA) in Johannesburg 2018. More recently, his award-winning Digital team featured in the hospital’s 2019 CQC report as an area of ‘’outstanding practice’ contributing to the Trust’s overall ’Outstanding’ rating across all domains; a first for any NHS hospital Trust in England. In 2021 his Digital team won the 2021 HTN Now Award for ‘’Rapid response to Covid19’.’
This presentation focusses on Andrew’s route to becoming a CIO at one of the world’s leading cardio-thoracic centres of excellence, Royal Papworth Hospital, while sharing his passion for professionalism and careers in health and care tech including the rise and rise of cyber security.
Andrew joined Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2017 following his former role as IT Programme Director at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. Andrew has over 20 years’ experience working in the health and private sectors, including overseas; this includes leading a number of high-profile projects such as the implementation of IT in a GP-led practice at HMP Thameside on the Belmarsh Prison Estate and the implementation of Liquidlogic, a children and adult social care system while at Leicester City Council. Andrew is a graduate of the Oxford Said Executive Leadership programme, has a Master’s degree in Healthcare Informatics specialising in education and is Chair of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS) Digital Enabling Group. Andrew is a member of the National GS1 UK Health Advisory Board and is a CHIME Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer (CHCIO), a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS) and Leading Practitioner in the Federation of Informatics Professionals (FedIP).
