The AHSN Network
Transforming lives through innovation
The AHSN Network is the innovation arm of the NHS. The 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) across England are catalysts that create the right conditions to facilitate change across whole health and social care economies, with a clear focus on improving outcomes for patients.
Through strong collaboration between health, care, academia and industry, the AHSNs are uniquely placed to identify and spread health innovation at pace and scale; driving the adoption and spread of innovative ideas and technologies across large populations. The AHSNs’ impact rests on their ability to bring people, resources and organisations together quickly, delivering benefits that could not be achieved alone.
Harnessing the growing power of digital and AI solutions is fundamental to the ambition of the NHS Long Term Plan to transform health and social care and AHSNs are central to the digital and AI ecosystem within health and care. The AHSNs connect the sectors to enable more products to be developed, right through from an idea to real world validation and on to spread through their national network.
In the last financial year, AHSNs helped 2,605 companies develop or spread 3,630 innovations and leveraged £152 million of inward investment.
